Testing of Arabic as Foreign Language (TAAFL)

Testing Arabic As a Foreign Language

Arabic proficiency transcends linguistic boundaries, fostering interfaith dialogue and cultural exchange. As graduates emerge from An-Nour Institute, they carry with them not only the eloquence of the language but also a profound understanding of its spiritual significance.

These skilled individuals serve as imams, guiding congregations in prayer, scholars delving into sacred texts, and educators disseminating knowledge across continents. Their fluency in Arabic becomes a bridge—a conduit for shared wisdom, compassion, and unity. Through their teachings, they weave a tapestry of understanding, connecting diverse communities and enriching the global discourse.

Therefore, the Arabic Language stands as a cornerstone within the educational ecosystem of An-Nour Institute for Al-Azhar Education, renowned for its commitment to Islamic scholarship and Arabic language proficiency. Rooted in centuries of Al-Azhar tradition, the Arabic Language Institute bridges the gap between sacred knowledge and linguistic mastery.

The institute offers two types of Arabic language tests:

Placement Test

Purpose: To assess students’ Arabic language proficiency upon entry to An-Nour Institute.

A non-native speaker takes a placement test to determine their appropriate level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). The test evaluates grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral expression. By using these assessments, educators can identify the specific strengths and weaknesses of each student, allowing for tailored instruction that meets individual learning needs.

The results from these internal tests help in placing students in appropriate classes or programs, ensuring that they receive the right level of challenge and support. Additionally, internal language tests provide valuable data that can inform curriculum adjustments and teaching strategies, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of language education within the Arabic Language Institute.

This evaluation is also a crucial component of the whole educational ecosystem offered by An-Nour Institute as Arabic is regarded the medium of instruction, therefore many academic programs require a minimum level of Arabic fluency in order for students to interact with Arabic-speaking instructors while pursuing their studies.

Integration with Islamic Studies: Students should be prepared for questions that assess their comprehension of classical Islamic texts, including expressions found in the Holy Quran and Hadith. This approach involves engaging with Quranic verses, Hadith, and classical texts of fiqh, literature, poems, etc., to test Arabic language understanding. These components are integral to Arab culture and society, and they serve as powerful tools for testing in-depth language comprehension.

Arabic Language Proficiency Certification Test (ALPCT)

Proficiency certification test is a standardized exam that is administered by the Arabic Language Institute and is designed to provide an official, widely recognized measure of a person’s language abilities. Such certification is invaluable for students and professionals alike, as it offers tangible proof of language skills that can be presented to employers, academic institutions, or immigration authorities.
